House Bill 4512
House Bill 4512 sets up a process for orphaned oil and gas wells to be hooked up to Bitcoin miners and use excess energy to mine Bitcoin.
The full bill can be seen here:
The Michigan Bitcoin Trade Council is SUPPORTING House Bill 4512.
Why?
The Michigan Bitcoin Trade Council supports House Bill 4512 because it would make energy systems more efficient, taking excess gases that are escaping into the atmosphere and allow that energy to be used to mine Bitcoin.
Reforms like House Bill 4512 are important because they show how Bitcoin creates efficiencies in society. The runoff from orphaned oil and gas operations seeps into the atmosphere, causing environmental damage and an increase in carbon emissions.
Hooking these operations up to Bitcoin miners will help the environment and cause more economic productivity that can help the state's economic viability. This is a win/win legislation that also helps to dispel the false talking point that Bitcoin is bad for the environment when the reality is in fact the opposite.
